Liverpool has been a team to fear for the last 5 years. Jurgen Klopp’s team always knew how to play football, but after some shrewd acquisitions, they finally achieved the stability he had been seeking.
In the last 5 years, Liverpool has been ion the finals 3 times, which shows dominance on the European level, but unfortunately, they’ve had to contend with a juggernaut that’s won the competition 5 times out of the last nine years. They’ve not lost a champions league final in decades.
Real Madrid has met Liverpool twice in the champions league final this decade. They walked out the winners on both occasions, but last year was a dream as the luck which Madrid rode has never been seen in football.
Liverpool is a dangerous team to play right now, especially when it comes to big matches, you don’t trample on a wounded lion. With the quality of players they possess coupled with their world-class manager, they are capable of beating any team in the world.
Klopp will have a selection headache on his hands as Mo salah is a nailed-on starter, Roberto Firmino has rejuvenated his career this season leaving Liverpool planning to extend his contract when only a few months ago rumors had it they were willing to let him go when his contract was up.
With Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota available it will be interesting to see where Darwin Nunez will play.
Real Madrid on the other hand will be confident going into the tie as they comfortably sit second on the spanish la liga table.
Last year after the defeat, Jurgen Klopp asked where the next final was and said book the ticket, Liverpool FC will see you there.
Its a shame a team of such caliber has to be eliminated so early in the competition, but it has to be looked at as a landmark statement.
“I know we have played Real Madrid in a couple of recent finals but it is not so often that our two clubs have met in a two-legged tie so now we can look forward to this happening.
“Real’s European record is the best around. We know this. But we also know that ours is not too bad. On top of this, we know that we have Anfield and everyone knows what this means.
“It is a really good draw. A really exciting draw. The games themselves are still a few months away but it does not take a great deal of imagination to think what the atmosphere will be like at both games.
“There is a lot of football to be played before this, of course, so we will focus on each game as it comes but yes, this draw has given us something special to look forward to.” said Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool will have to slay this dragon before they proceed on to fulfill their managers promise.
